Fairtrade breakfast table:
“Before you finish breakfast, you will have depended on half of the world” - Martin Luther King -
A Fairtrade breakfast table is a fun way to get publicity and contact with people. Organize a breakfast/lunch/dinner table on a strategic place, on campus, on the street, in front of a supermarket, at a market square or even in the parliament. This way you can engage people, who pass by, students, members of parliament etc. All you need is a table, chairs, Fairtrade products and a good spirit. During the event you eat and consume Fairtrade products, explain about Fairtrade, give out brochures and have various fun activities (street theatre or unfair football for example). One way to draw the public’s attention is to invite a local politician or celebrity to join you at the table.
To think about before the event:
- Find people to participate in the event
- Decide on the target audience
- Choose time and place for the event and get permission if needed
- Invite a politician, celebrity or a producer to join the table
- Advertise the event
- Prepare material, flyers and information to distribute
- Choose which products you will use and contact potential sponsors
- Bake or buy food
- Acquire table, chairs, cups, plates etc.
At the table:
- Talk to people
- Collect a list of interested people so you can send more information later
- Invite people to other events you will have later
- Have other activities by the table (Football, games, music, celebrities, producers, theatre, exhibition)
- If possible, organize a projector and white screen at the venue, and show the activity collage on the backround
- Make an album with pictures of the table
- Make it fun, have fun!
