Fairtrade volunteers all around the world join together to celebrate Fairtrade and ethical consumption and to make the idea and products of Fairtrade more known to the general public. Different events are being planned in more than 7 countries e.g. over 100 big and small Fairtrade brunches all over France.
”In Warsaw, the Fairtrade breakfast table is a part of our two-day event on ethical consumption. The weekend includes workshops and debates, a screening of the movie ”China blue”, a second-hand fashion show, bike-fixing stand and also a local food breakfast on Sunday”, says Kasia Szeniawska from EFTE Poland.
In Finland the breakfast table events focus on claiming ethical standards to public purchases.”1500 billion euros are used every year in Europe to public procurement. In our events we are saying we don't want our tax money to be used to sweatshop products”, says Sonja Vartiala from Pro Fair Trade Finland. The Finnish Fairtrade volunteer organization will host 6 Fairtrade Breakfast Table events and challenge local celebrities and politians to join them at the breakfast table.
Fairtrade Breakfast Table takes place on the international World Fair Trade Day, that is celebrated every year on the second Saturday of May. The day is endorsed by the International Fair Trade Association IFAT.
